It happened in Medford at around 1:35 a.m. Saturday, July 6 near Cedar Lane and West Lane, Suffolk County Police said.

Darnell Smith, 36, of East Patchogue has been ID'd by police as the shooting victim. Smith was transported by private vehicle to the Coram Fire Department on Middle Country Road in Coram. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another man who was stabbed was rushed to a nearby hospital.
